Gift starts veteran's holidays off right

On Dec. 2, we definitely had a heart-warming experience to start off our Christmas season.

I had spent the day staying with a friend who has multiple sclerosis, while her husband was at work. When my husband picked me up to go home, he suggested that we stop somewhere for supper. We went to The Forum on Highway 100, and we ordered a very nice meal, and we had a very sweet waitress.

During our meal, a waiter from an area away from ours came by and asked if our food was OK. Then, he asked if my husband is a veteran. Yes, he is, and my husband asked, "Why?" The waiter said that a fellow not sitting near us wanted to know. My husband looked around and didn't recognize anyone he'd been in service with. He thought maybe the fellow would come over when he finished eating and talk to him. Well, no one did.

We asked for our check, and our waitress said that everything was paid for, including tip! We wanted to know who paid it, and she said it was the fellow who asked if my husband was a veteran. We asked to have her point him out and she said he had told her not to tell us this until he had left the restaurant. She said he was a young man in his 20s.

He definitely started our Christmas season out in a special way. There are surely kind and wonderful young people among us.
