Oct. 11, 2011 | 0 comments

Is there a rumor you've heard you would like to track down? Is there something in the community that needs to get fixed? Mary Malahy answers some of the mysteries of life in the Elmbrook area.

What are the city's rules about leaf burning?

Issue: With the leaves falling, a reader has noticed increased burning in Brookfield and is curious to know what Brookfield's specific burning rules are.

Status: According to the city's website, residents can burn yard waste Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. as long as the wind speed doesn't exceed 15 mph. Fires must be completely extinguished by 7 p.m.

Burning piles should be smaller than 5 feet in diameter and 2 feet high. The piles must be 25 feet from the front lot line, 15 feet from the side and 10 feet from the back lot line. Fires are not allowed in ditches or on roadways. Anyone who notices a violation should contact the Fire Department at (262) 782-8932.
