A mosque in Brookfield is troubling proposition

Feb. 22, 2012 | 66 comments

Public Forum:

"Islam isn't in America to be the equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Koran should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on Earth." - 1998 speech to Muslims in California by Omar Ahmad, co-founder of the Council on American Islamic Relations

While the Koran (Qur'an), Islam's holiest book, gives three reasons why Muslims are encouraged to lie, we can be sure that Omar Ahmad is not lying in the above statement, by judging the behavior of the Muslims in countries where they have been allowed to dominate.

Regarding the Muslim mosque being considered for Brookfield, it is a horrible idea for many reasons:

1. Where mosques exist in other U.S. cities, they are routinely used as facilities in which to train their members in terrorist activities.

2. Where Muslims dominate the population, they impose Sharia Law, totally opposed to our Constitutional form of government.

3. Even though Mayor Steven Ponto, as accomplished as he is, has stated on TV that Brookfield has been working with the Muslim community for three years now, he may not really understand (as most U.S. residents do not), the real facts and motives behind the Muslim faith. (Re-read opening statement). For documentation on this information, go to TheStraightWay.org, Usama Dakdok's website. He is an Islamic expert, born and raised in a Muslim country (Egypt), and has translated the Koran without distortion or "political correctness."

4. The Muslims are supposed to lie to any "infidel" (non-Muslim) for any reason, until they have enough momentum to dominate a population, which is their goal. So, when they maintain they are basically a "peaceful religion," Usama, and commonsense, caution us to not believe them. Remember late President Ronald Reagan's words when dealing with sworn enemies, "Trust but verify?" We would be wise to not trust those who would kill us.

5. Remember that the true followers of Mohammed demand that the infidels either convert to Islam or are killed. (Beheading is the method of choice: It was Mohammed's favorite!)

In addition to the extra taxes and fees we Brookfield residents will undoubtedly need to pay, we say nix to the mosque here in the bosom of Brookfield.

For further information, listen to WVCY Radio 107.7 FM at 12.30 p.m. weekdays to hear Daktok explain the issues from the Koran.

  1. Ms Baratti,

    What are you basing your first point, that US mosques are regularly used for terrorist activities, on? That's a pretty bold claim, one that deserves evidence.

    It is simply untrue that the majority of Muslims seek to subjugate the entire world to Islam. In fact, Christianity is viewed as an acceptable faith to exist alongside to most followers of Islam.

    You cannot simply read the Qur'an as you would the Bible. There is much more that goes into a Muslim's belief system than the text. While there is undoubtedly a call to violence in parts of the book, this isn't seen as something needed to be followed today by most.

    Finally, what background or education do you have that gives you credibility in this topic? Assuming the following link is your profile, it seems all your work experience surrounds cosmetics or dentistry.

      Whether pursued through the violent form of jihad (holy war) or stealthier practices that shariah Islamists often refer to as “dawa” (the “call to Islam”), shariah rejects fundamental premises of American society and values:

      a. the bedrock proposition that the governed have a right to make law for themselves;
      b. the republican democracy governed by the Constitution;
      c. freedom of conscience; individual liberty (including in matters of personal privacy);
      d. freedom of expression (liberty to analyze and criticize shariah);
      e. economic liberty (including private property);
      f. equal treatment under the law ( men and women, and of Muslims and non-Muslims);
      g. freedom from cruel and unusual punishments; an unequivocal condemnation of terrorism; and
      h. an abiding commitment to deflate and resolve political controversies by the ordinary mechanisms of federalism and democracy, not wanton violence.

      "Its ambitions transcend what American law recognizes as the sacrosanct realm of private conscience and belief....In fact, we get this concept of “civilization jihad” from the next reference below.

      "The process of settlement is a "Civilization-Jihadist Process"... 2. Hello Ms Baratti,
    I am a muslim teenager who lives in Brookfield. Although muslims to have a bad reputation, it is because of the assumptions made that all of us are terrorists.
    1) The fact that you say mosques are a training place for terrorist activities is completely offensive. The meaning of Islam itself is peace, and just because there are extremists that have caused problems does not mean the majority of Muslims are training to be terrorists, or even agree with the extremist ideals!

    2) I would be very interested to hear what you know about the Sharia law- Not in the context of the times when it was written, but how Muslims in this day and age interpret it and how you think it is completely against the Constitutional Law.

    3) Mayor Steve Ponto has done great work with the Muslim Community. If he were to be uninformed about Muslim motives, I think he would have stated it. If it was really a danger to the community, this mosque would not be being built in the first place. Again, many people can put together that all Muslims are not terrorists and they are willing do do all their research before making uneducated comments.

    4) The Muslims goal is not to dominate any population. Muslims follow the 5 pillars of Islam: Hajj- a pilgrimage to Mecca as a pilgrimage to God( not obligatory), Zakat-giving charity, Salat-prayer, Shahada- accepting Muhammad as Gods messenger, and Fasting during the month of Ramadan as self-purification. If you would like to know more about these, I would be happy to share. The pillars are the foundation of Islam, and have nothing to do with killing or trying to conform people to Islam.

    5) You must look at the actions of Muhammad and the words of the Quran in the context of the time before jumping to any conclusions. Remember, the Quran was written in metaphors and allegories and not everything should be taken literally.

    I look forward to hearing your response. Thank You.

  4. Ms. Baratti, I too am a local Muslim teen. And, naturally, I too am offended. Before going any further, I'd like to point our that I am an ambitious high schooler, living in America, actively involved in my secular community, and at the same time a very, very proud Muslim. And, believe it or not, there's more where I came from. In fact, my "kind" is far more populous than the miguidded extremists that make up not even 0.7% of the worldwide Muslim population. As a reminder, these types of extremists are present in every religion. To cite an example: Jim Jones. He killed almost the same amont of Americas as did the people in charge of the 9/11 attacks. So please, Ms. Baratti, don't be so qick to drink the Koolaid (pun VERY intended).
    You likely have heard, and are going to hear, counterarguements to your views on Islam. And you're likely to brush them off. I don't blame you in this regard, because to be attracted to the worst version of something is embedded in human nature. You're a victim of this sad fact, but you're also someone who understands this very well--and you're capitalizing off of it beautifully in your own yellow jornalism, if I may say so.
    The issue at hand is not one of the intentions of the "Muslim" that you seem to have such a romantically violent image of in or head versus yor own intentions. Nor is it a matter of liberal viewpoints versus your own (I'm speculating) conservative ones. Rather, this is an issue of education versus blatant ignorance.
    Instead of preaching my own views into illumination, I recommend that you educate yourself further on this sensitive topic before slandering millions of people in the eyes of your Brookfield audience and further contributing to the slowly diminishing hate, distrust and general ignorance in our state, nation and world. The link posted below would be a great start to said education.
  5. Our nation's Bill of Rights which applies to all the states within our Union upholds Americans' rights to practice their religion without prohibitive restrictions. The Supreme Court has said that the First Amendment, as it pertains to religion, embodies the preferred freedom necessary for the functioning of a free society, and therefore must be carefully protected. A mosque in Brookfield is an outward sign of a healthy free American society in which the government does not interfere when people choose to exercise their religion as they wish. There are no exceptions: Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, or any of the other countless religions practiced throughout the world. In other words, Islam is no exception as the First Amendment protects its practice like any other religion. What the world needs is more tolerance and understanding of beliefs contrary to the majority. Our Constitution was created with tolerance and understanding as its paramount objective. Any attempt to censor the practice of religion anywhere in the United States is desecration of a freedom every American is entitled to. Brookfield needs to stand up for what signers of the Bill of Rights intended as a foundation for our U.S. Constitution and for the freedoms by which we live today.

    • Denying one to build isn't coercing the same to any particular religion nor denying the same to exercise their religion. It is simply the local people protecting the community from publicly establishing harmful entities or the displaying of what they may see as a long term negative change.

      I would see the mosque as a long term threat to the current community. It would be the first of the strategic steps in the process of changing this land and our culture to something different.
      -------
      Settlement: "That Islam and its Movement become a part of the homeland it lives in".
      Establishment: "That Islam turns into firmly-rooted organizations on whose bases civilization, structure and testimony are built".
      Stability: "That Islam is stable in the land on which its people move".
      Enablement: "That Islam is enabled within the souls, minds and the lives of the people of the country in which it moves".
      Rooting: "That Islam is resident and not a passing thing, or rooted "entrenched" in the soil of the spot where it moves and not a strange plant to it".
      ------
      There is little if any true respect of the due process of a representative government within Islam and so even this process of approval and discussion is a dislike. It tends to initiate a scrutiny of Islam. I don't believe Islam is a religion of peace nor that it teaches tolerance needed in a representative government.

      My hope are prayers are for the people of Brookfield to truly look at the long term affects of this decision.
  6. Christianity's mission, LB, is to point everyone to the saving work of Jesus Christ on the Cross at Calvary. What folks do with that truth is up to them.

    If you want to bathe in the fullness of Islam, you'll have to travel to Saudi Arabia where they have installed Sharia Law as their measure of mercy. A trend sure to follow the establishment of mosques all over the U.S.

    Then you'll finally understand Islam!

    Good luck.

    • Would you want to live in "the fullness of Christianity?" In other words, a theocracy led by sinful human beings? Your gut reaction might be yes, but consider this.

      While the US undeniably has Christian principles at its core, there are a multitude of denominations/interpretations of Christianity that freely practice their faith. What would a theocracy look like? A Catholic leader as the head of state? Then perhaps Protestants would not be allowed to practice (remember that the Reformation was seen as heretical). Would atheists be forced to convert or else move out?

      Obviously this is not what our country stands for, nor is it what we want. Likewise, you cannot take one Islamic country's political structure and extrapolate that to mean that providing Constitutional religious freedom will result in an American Islamic state. In fact, by withholding that freedom, we would actually be supporting more Saudi Arabian-like policies (i.e. persecution of minority religious groups).
  7. Ah, Greg, you're discussing (and accurately so) the natural flow of religions among sinful men.

    I'm referring (and correctly so) to the compassion of God as shown through the work of His risen Son, Jesus. Perhaps the most profound way to come to grips with this later notion is to view a short but powerful witness provided some twelve years ago by another follower of Jesus - Brennan Manning at:

    Best of luck. You deserve the very best!

    • I am a Christian and have been my whole life. I agree with you about a Christian's duty to share the Gospel. While we as can agree on the importance of sharing this message, I'm not sure this is relevant to the current issue.

      The article is making the argument that Brookfield should not allow a Mosque to be built because "Where mosques exist in other U.S. cities, they are routinely used as facilities in which to train their members in terrorist activities."

      So this brings us to the question: If we can't trust a society to be run justly under a Christian government, can we really in good conscience talk about denying Muslims their right to free religion?
  8. So christianity is merciful. That's some great comfort to thousands who have been abused by priests and the church's coverup of that abuse.
  9. Here's a link to her website for anyone who wants to share their feelings about her hateful letter. Good reason not to buy Mary Kay products as well!!!

  10. >>1. Where mosques exist in other U.S. cities, they are routinely used as facilities in which to train their members in terrorist activities.

    I suppose by that logic one could say where Catholic churches exist in other U.S. cities, they are routinely used as facilities to molest children.

    And if you want to use literalism in the Koran, let's try it out in the Bible.

    "Because the LORD considers it a holy day, anyone who works on the Sabbath must be put to death." (Exodus 31:12-15 NLT) There are plenty more. So I suppose context and interpretation are important?
