When the Evangelical and Reformed United Church of Christ in Waukesha burned beyond saving on Dec. 5, 2005, residents of Waukesha joined church members in mourning its loss. It was known in earlier days as the "German" church because many of the founders were of German descent. From the time the early sermons were delivered in German, until the late l920s, that tradition continued. The church itself was one of the oldest buildings in the city.
Members worked together to plan the building of a new church, which was dedicated in December, 2008. Since then members have worked to raise money for the new building by holding a variety of fundraisers. Recently, they held a chili supper in the new fellowship hall.
